Aetna To Cut 650 Jobs

Aetna announced in October that about 2 percent, or approximately 650, of the company's total workforce of 30,000 will be terminated, including nearly 200 employees in management positions. The company says this is part of its drive to streamline operations and provide affordable health coverage to current and future customers by reducing administrative expenses. These actions will result in a fourth-quarter charge of approximately $20 million, after tax, related to severance costs.
