Every September marks Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM), sponsored by the LIFE Foundation. This should present a great opportunity for agents to spread the word about such policies, especially with the tools LIFE provides for producers on their Web site.
Results are less than encouraging, however. In a recent study conducted by Agent Media and LIFE, 58 percent of producers say the event had no impact at all on their business, and 21 percent said they were not even aware it existed. Only 11 percent said it increased awareness of the need for life insurance among their clients and increased their sales.
According to LIMRA International, 68 million adult Americans have no life insurance at all, and those with coverage have far less than most experts recommend to ensure a secure financial future for their families. In order to help agents meet that need and promote their life business, LIFE offers several agent-specific tools on their Web site. Among these offerings is a producer one-pager outlining ways that agents can use LIAM to their benefit, such as:
o Mark LIAM on the calendar today
o Use LIAM to get appointments scheduled
o Tell your clients that "life happens"
o Set aside money and time
o Tap into all available assets
