New York Life Insurance Company has hired Tom Johnson to be head of business development for retirement income security.
Johnson previously was a senior vice president for retirement income, strategic business development, at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Springfield, Mass.
Johnson has a bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College.

Matthews previously was vice president of national account sales at CIGNA HealthCare, a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia.
Matthews has a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Northwest Missouri State University. He also has been a tank commander in the U.S. Army.
