Evelyn Murphy, a former Massachusetts lieutenant governor, is the new chair of the board of SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Murphy succeeds Joseph Mancino as the chair of SBLI USA, New York. Mancino is retiring from that post after serving on the company's board since 1991, the company says. David Jefferson Sr. will be the SBLI USA vice chair.
SBLI USA has about 300,000 policyholders and $1.4 billion in assets.
Murphy, who has served on the company's board since 2000, has a doctorate in economics from Duke University. In addition to being a past Massachusetts lieutenant governor, she is the founder and president of the Wage Project Inc., a group that fights wage discrimination.
