More Americans Uninsured in 2011 (Gallup)

In 2011, 17.1% of American adults lacked health insurance coverage, the largest number since 2008, when Gallup started tracking the data.

The number of uninsured has been steadily rising each year. Hispanic Americans are the most likely to be uninsured, with more than 40% going without coverage in 2011. More than 30% of low-income Americans are also uninsured.

Seniors and high-income Americans are the most likely to be insured. And young adults were less likely to be uninsured in 2011, thanks to the healthcare reform law provision that allows them to now stay on their parents' insurance plans until age 26.
