Though he's failed to stir much emotion from Republican voters, Rick Santorum stole the spotlight for a minute during last Thursday's primary, argues Michael Tomasky. Santorum claimed that if Romney takes the GOP ticket, voters will essentially be giving up the heated issue of health care, an area where Obama, left to face a candidate who leans further right, would be vulnerable. Up against Romney, however, Obama could pretty easily level the field, citing the similarities between the health plan Romney signed into law in Massachusetts in 2006 and his own federal plan. Romney's only real defense, says Tomasky, is the issue of states' rights -- one which could be in tatters if the Supreme Court upholds the individual mandate in March.
