This map shows what states are doing, or not doing, to implement the provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 that encourage states to set up "health insurance exchanges," or Web-based insurance supermarkets, that individuals and small businesses can use to buy health coverage.

PPACA calls for the federal government to provide exchange services in states that do not set up their own exchanges or participate in multi-state exchange consortiums.
