After years of existing only in the future, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) health insurance exchanges have arrived at their launch date. Some started up exactly on time. At press time, some were still working out kinks.
Here is map of that complicated new world, based mainly on data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. The “multi-state plan” (MSP) column shows whether a state’s exchange will offer one of the new MSPs that were created by PPACA. PPACA also created a new type of non-profit, member-owned health plan. The CO-OP column gives the name of any CO-OP plan options a state has. The typical premium column gives the statewide monthly average premium for the “second cheapest silver plan” available through a state’s exchange.
