Congressman Paul Broun, R-Mass., put forth his own bill for replacing the health reform law and has the backing of Freedom Works—a prominent Tea Party organization. The Offering Patients True Individualized Options Now Act, or OPTION Act, is divided into five parts: repealing the health law, changing the tax treatment of health expenditures, Medicare support, reform of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, and allowing people to purchase insurance across state lines and small businesses to band together to purchase lower-cost association health plans. Brown, who doubles as a primary care physician, started working on his plan before President Obama’s was passed into law. At just 51 pages long, it does include a policy to help the uninsured get care.
