Genworth: Nursing Home Costs Rise 4.2%

Alaska and several Northeastern states continue to dominate the top of the U.S. long-term care (LTC) cost charts.

The long-term care insurance (LTCI) unit of Genworth Financial Inc., Richmond, Va. (NYSE:GNW), have included sobering nursing home price figures for those states in its ninth annual LTC cost survey report.

Genworth analysts found that nursing home care in the middle of the country is still relatively inexpensive. The median annual cost of a private nursing home room is $53,597 in Oklahoma, $55,480 in Missouri and $56,721 in New Orleans.

In the past, the analysts have found that care costs the most in the Northeast and Alaska, and that trend continued this year.
