Out of more than 1,800 women, 53% expect to self-fund their retirement though 401(k)s, IRAs or outside savings and investments, according to the 2012 Women: Let’s Talk About Retirement 12th Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey. Of women in their 60s, 60% expect to rely on Social Security, while 77% of women in their 20s expect to self-fund. Of women of all ages, 8% were very confident that they will be able to fully retire in a comfortable lifestyle, 21% were not at all confident, and 11% of women in their 20s were very confident. In planning for retirement, Jean Chatzky, author of “Money Rules,” says women should save 10% of their annual salary, 15% for women in their 40s and 20% for women in their 50s.
