More than half (63%) of 18- to 34-year-olds say they know a friend or family member who has moved back in with parents in the past few years because of the economic downturn, according to a report from the Pew Research Center. More than 70% of young adults who are living with their parents have a friend or family member who has recently moved back in with their parents. Mothers are more likely than fathers to say that their adult child has moved back in (35% vs. 21%). Hispanic parents are more likely than black or white parents to say their adult child has moved back in. Parents with household incomes of $100,000 or more are just as likely as those with incomes under $30,000 to say a child has moved back in.
