Blowing a paycheck on games of chance, such as lotteries and casinos, is not unheard of, but to be paid by a game of chance is something altogether different. Except, not for the city employees of Bialet Masse, Argentina. Mayor Gustavo Pueyo did not have the money to pay all of the city’s 92 employees, so he held a raffle to determine who got paid. Twenty-three employees received their pay after the first raffle last week. It’s not clear if an employee’s name is removed from the pool after they have been selected, but another raffle is scheduled for next week. Mayor Pueyo said the raffle idea was approved by national mayoral authorities.
