California officials said they have charged a Las Vegas couple with grand theft and other felonies in connection with the sale of in-home service agreements.

The agreements were fake, according to officials at the California Department of Insurance and the San Diego County district attorney's office.

The defendants in the case, Michael and Melissa Woodward, were arrested in Las Vegas, extradited to San Diego, and arraigned during a hearing in a state court in San Diego, officials said.

For a prepaid annual fee, the program the defendants sold was supposed to provide "an unlimited amount of non- medical services such as cooking, cleaning, bathing, toileting, dressing, laundry and shopping," officials said.

In some cases, the Woodwards did pay for services such as house cleaning, but, when customers asked for more expensive services, the Woodwards did not provide the services, officials said.

Officials said the Woodwards did business in 10 states under many aliases.

The Woodwards and a lawyer who represented them at the arraignment could not immediately be reached for comment.
